During the 2014 -2015 school year, over 300 teachers across the nation piloted Model Cornerstone Assessments based on the new national core arts standards thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Over 6000 pieces of student artwork were collected and adjudicated by 25 educators chosen as benchmarkers; five in each discipline of Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theatre and Visual Arts. The rigorous process of adjudication utilized proven protocols guided by nationally known experts in the field of arts assessment to assure inter-rater reliability on the final 200 student works chosen, which will serve as benchmarked student work aligned to the new national core arts standards.
